STAKING TECHNICIAN at the Cooperative Headquarters

The starting wage is $26.86 per hour with an excellent benefits package.


·  Design and stake distribution line facilities according to current code and construction specifications and established policies of the Cooperative, RUS, National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code.

·  Contact new customers and assigns appropriate work order numbers, map numbers and line section numbers to new accounts.

·  Secure required right-of-way easements from new customers.

·  Work closely with member/consumers to provide service by answering questions and offering assistance as needed. 

·  Prepare cost tabulations and obtain the appropriate electrical service agreement. 

·  Initialize and coordinate all One-Call location information requests for new construction. 

·  Coordinate all types of pole attachment activities in connection with new and existing construction projects. 

·  Maintain files and records pertaining to staking sheets, right-of-way easements, highway and railroad crossing permits, special permits, system maps, drawings and other information collected in connection with design and staking of distribution and transmission facilities.

·  Assist with field inspections for new and existing construction projects to ensure accuracy and adherence to RUS Specifications, National Electric Safety Code, and other state and local requirements. 

·  Assist with selecting the most cost effective route and design for all new overhead and underground line construction. 

·  Assist with acquiring and negotiating new right-of-way easements involving timber companies or other adjacent property owners.

·  Arrange and check for quality control for all right-of-way clearing activities involving new construction. 

·  Size transformers and determine load requirements of new single-phase and three-phase installations. 

·  Assist with the design and staking of all types of system improvement projects. 

·  Assist with the design and preparing of cost estimates for builder/developers on new subdivision projects. 

·  Assist in performing key account activities such as single-phase energy audits, industrial audits, and rate audits in order to assist members in the efficient use of electrical power.

·  Assist in securing all required permits from State and County agencies, Railroad and Timber companies.

·  Ability to read/write legal descriptions involving difficult right-of-way easements or permits.

·  Assist in updating records for system maps and construction work plans. 

·  Operate all types of survey equipment, GPS equipment and different types of computer software programs, I.E. Staking, mapping, etc.

·  Perform other assignments as directed and required, and is subject to emergency call-out.


·  Ability to analyze and interpret RUS construction specifications, NESC, and NEC Codes.

·  Skill to competently use a computer for various applications including computer staking, mapping, data input, inquiry, word processing, spreadsheets and other special engineering software applications. 

·  Ability to analyze and interpret Cooperative, RUS, and Public Service Commission rules, regulations and standards regarding the extension of electric service, construction specifications, line extension policy, wiring specifications, and customer service rules.

·  Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate activities with members, contractors, outside agencies and the general public.

·  Valid driver’s license required.

·  Working knowledge of all NISC software suites including CIS for service order creation and SmartTrak for service order monitoring.

·  Proficient knowledge of Apple products for use with NISC Appsuite to aid in monitoring service orders and mapping changes.

·  Working knowledge of ESRI software for up-to-date system changes and for accuracy in outage, CIS and engineering maps.


·  Ability to work with members and contractors in easement acquisition, right-of-way clearing, and staking activities. 

·  Ability to work with Construction and Staking Manager, District Managers, Director of Engineering, Director of Operations and other Cooperative employees in carrying out assigned staking responsibilities. 

·  Ability to work with other outside engineering groups, state and local agencies and general public as directed and required.


§  High school diploma or equivalent required. 

§  Additional 2-3 years college or vocational-technical training in a related field is preferred.

§  Work experience in similar position or capacity may be considered in lieu of additional education requirements.
