Cooperative Principles

First Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative will provide services to any person willing to accept the responsibilities of membership without regard to gender, social, racial, political or religious application.

Second Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative is a democratic organization controlled by the members who actively participate in setting policies, and making decisions through an elected Board of Directors. Members have equal voting rights.

Third Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit organization; members received limited compensation, if any, on capital subscribed as a condition of membership. Surpluses may be used to develop the Cooperative, set up reserves, benefit members in proportion to transaction, and support other activities.

Fourth Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative is an autonomous, self-help organization. When it enters into agreements it does so on terms that ensure democratic control and autonomy for the membership.

Fifth Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative will inform the membership and general public about the nature and benefits of a cooperative. When and where appropriate, the Cooperative will provide training and education to the members, Board, employees and general public.

Sixth Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative when and where appropriate will work together with other cooperative organizations.

Seventh Principle

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative will work for the sustainable development of the local communities within its service area.
