Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation with headquarters in Texarkana, Arkansas, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of: SUBSTATION TECHNICIAN at the Cooperative Headquarters.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Repairs and maintains substations and substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, downline reclosers, regulators, capacitor banks and other technical equipment.
•    Performs/oversees all field-testing operations in substations and records maintenance data and spill reports as necessary. 
•    Assists districts with technical problems. 
•    Programs and calibrates electronic polyphase meters.
•    Calibrates and maintains statistical meters, transducers, and protective single phase and three phase transmission line relays, transformer differential relays and distribution overcurrent relays as required.
•    Performs and maintains records of infrared inspection of cooperative system.
•    Installs, maintains and troubleshoots SCADA remote terminal units and transducers.
•    Installs, maintains and troubleshoots AMI equipment and software.
•    Assist in compiling engineering data and preparing reports for analysis by the Manager of Substation and Transmission and V.P. of Engineering & Operation.  Engineering data includes transformers, regulator, capacitor and other reports as required.
•    Attend monthly safety meetings.
•    Complete Daily Job Briefings (JSA) and participate in discussions.
•    Complete Daily Truck Inspections.
•    Complete Daily/Weekly Timesheets.
•    Required to complete NLC four-year Substation Certification program with passing scores in a timely manner.
•    Required to attend training classes in house, state level and outside equipment manufacturers training seminars.
•    Required to meet qualifications, pass written and skills testing to advance to next level.
•    Required to work overtime as needed and available for 24/7 callouts.
•    Other responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•    Valid driver’s license required.
•    Ability to test electromechanical meters, electronic meters, transducers, and polyphase meter phasing and checkout.
•    Ability to read and interpret metering and substation prints, schematic diagrams, and wire and troubleshoot accordingly.
•    Ability to use voltmeter, ammeter, CT burden tester, metering standard, ohmmeter, meter test bench, polyphase circuit analyzer, phase-angle meter, and other meter test equipment as required.
•    Ability to calibrate transducers, program and test electronic meters.
•    Ability to test and repair single-phase and polyphase electromechanical meters.
•    Ability to program, test and analyze data for electronic substation relays
•    Ability to locate polyphase meter installations, substations, and single-phase customers with general direction information.
•    Ability to possess knowledge of RES, IEEE, ANSI, Cooperative and PSC regulation regarding acceptable meter calibration standards, meter standard calibration requirements and intervals and meter test equipment.
•    Ability and stamina to climb ladders and work for extended periods. Ability to climb and work on power equipment for extended periods. Ability to work outside for extended periods. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
•    Other knowledge, skills and abilities as assigned.
•    Ability to train and mentor other Substation Techs.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
•    Ability to work with Manager of Substations and Transmission, Consultant Engineers and substation contractors in construction, maintenance and repair of electric substations. 
•    Ability to work with district managers and line and service personnel in constructing and checking out transformer banks, voltage regulator banks, capacitor banks and substations. 
•    Ability to work with general public in meter testing activities performed at customer locations.
•    Ability to work with Manager of Substations and Transmission, V.P. Engineering and Operations, and Manager of Metering/SCADA Services in drafting meter specifications, testing, construction and check-out of all Cooperative-owned metering equipment.
•    Ability to work with district managers and line and service personnel in constructing and checking out polyphase meter installations; and in performing meter tests at customer locations.
•    Ability to work with other engineering, operations, and general office employees as required.
•    Ability to work with contract meter tester regarding contract meter testing activities.
•    Other working relationships as required.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
•    An Associates Degree in Electrical Technology or related technical field may be required. Work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
•    Several years’ experience in electrical substation design, construction, testing, maintenance and repair. 
•    Additional education in electronics, electrical engineering technology or electrical engineering may be considered in lieu of experience.
