At the end of January, winter storm Fern brought extremely cold temperature to our Cooperative's service area that persisted for several days. As a result some members may experience higher than normal electric bills for this billing cycle.
During extended periods of cold weather, heating systems run longer and more frequently, often relying on auxiliary or resistance heat, which increases electricity usage even when thermostat settings remain unchanged.
With higher electricity usage during this period many members may notice higher than usual electric bills for this billing cycle, though individual member impacts will vary depending on household usage, home size, insulation, and heating sources.
Please feel free to contact Customer Service at 1-800-782-2743 to further discuss your electric bill, payment arrangements, or payment assistance options.

This graph demonstrates the effect of extreme cold weather temperatures and energy usage. The thin blue line represents temperature and the bar chart represents energy usage in kilowatt hours. The area in grey spans the extreme cold temperatures produced by Winter Storm Fern along with high Kwh usage over this period.
